Monday 9th September - walk *** – Orwell Country Park – Cloudy with some light rain.

Woke to rain and with the wind in the north it was no windsurfing for me today especially as we have two days of westerlies so hope to get out then! The rain cleared for the most part but my exercises were down indoors today then I decided to pack a picnic despite the gloomy day and head for Orwell Country Park near Ipswich for lunch by the river hoping we would be sheltered from the wind! There are problems with a main route out of town closed to build a roundabout so headed out by the docks, then there is a lane closed on the Orwell Bridge but we were lucky to turn off just before the queue! We parked around one and it was pretty quiet, people had decided to stay at home in the grey day with spells od drizzle. We headed down through bluebell wood now full of ferns with several fallen trees. We follow the footpath down to the river which is sadly very overgrown with brambles a real pain to get past, in fact several of the footpaths are badly in need of trimming back! Down on the foreshore we walked along the beach to our usual picnic spot opposite Stoke Sailing Club pretty sheltered from the breeze. After a nice relaxing lunch we continue up past the small holding stopping to say hello to the pig, under the Orwell bridge and through the woods and heath leading back to the van, a nice walk even on a poor weather day!
